The Rival is located by the beautiful park Mariatorget on Stockholm’s southern island, Södermalm
Philip M.: “Hotel Rival great location, residential but not too far out to walk everywhere.”
Perfectly situated in a quiet residential area, the hotel is surrounded by unique and eclectic areas to explore. Communications to the city center and Old Town are excellent, with just 100 meters to the Mariatorget subway stop, 300 meters to the commuter train, and the Old Town a quick 10-minute walk away.
A luxury boutique hotel in Södermalm…
On September 1, 2003, the Rival opened after extensive renovations. It is a small, privately-owned boutique hotel at Mariatorget Square in Stockholm with 99 rooms, a bistro with a bar, an art-deco style cocktail bar, and a theatre with seating for 735. And while the facilities are all excellent, it is the staff who – every day, evening and night – embodies what The Rival strives to be: a warm and personal place that brings people together. The owner, Benny Andersson (ABBA) – in collaboration with the rest of the team – has created a hotel and meeting place that we like to visit and stay again and again.
The lovely neighborhood, combined with fantastic front desk customer service, gives you a quintessentially Stockholmesque experience.
The love of food and drink is their great passion and they let the raw material take center stage and cook good food in an artificial way. On the menu, you will find both classics but also some more modern dishes where we have taken out the turns a little. Their ambition is that the reception, the presentation on the plate and the atmosphere will make you really happy.
“Hotel Rival, great location, residential but not too far out to walk everywhere”.

Karen C.: ” Opposite the train station. Compact rooms but great rooftop bar and a really good restaurant.

The Vasa Theatre is also here and, after a few years’ break, is back raising its red curtain once again. Sharon McF.: “I don’t like staying at the most expensive/grandest hotels. I stayed at the Lydmar Hotel (lovely boutique) which is next door to the Grand Hotel (older and much more expensive).
Gert van L.: “This hotel is one of my favorite hotels! Their mission and passion are everywhere.”
The Lydmar hotel likes to keep it simple and straightforward in a relaxed and informal environment. They believe in a hotel experience liberated from formalities and conservative stiffness. Calmness and simplicity are promoted rather than an abundance of impressions.
It is neither the rigid minimalist look nor the exaggerated grandness, which guests are used to in a five-star context. It is an ease of freshness in combination with a contemporary classic look, featuring culture, top quality, and strong personal impressions to create the added value of belonging.
This hotel believes that personality is more important than formal uniforms. The staff will express a more personal style and possess local knowledge about what is happening in town which will suit those who want to ‘live’ during their stay and are used to top service and relaxed elegancy.
Gotta love this!
Their dining room is a relaxed place where you will find yourself amongst locals and hotel cosmopolitans alike. With a distinctive and homely atmosphere of a warm and welcoming living room, this is a place where I am sure you will feel right at home.
At the Lydmar they share a true passion for well-made food and good wine. The kitchen draws inspiration from good French classic cuisine as well as traditional Swedish cooking combined with influences around the world.
The terrace is a well-kept secret located on the second floor of the Lydmar. With the inviting and tranquil atmosphere of a lush French garden, it is the perfect place to linger from day to evening whilst enjoying lunch, dinner, or summery cocktails.
“Staying in the Lydmar feels like staying at a very good friend home. A friend with very good taste in interior and style I must say…. Love Lydmar!”

Ivar Fernandez J.: “Love Scandic Haymarket! Awsome cocktail bar as well! Stay there whenever I’m in town!”
Eva K.: “I’m from Sweden and I might help you. Personally, I like Scandic Haymarket in the city center. There is a new nice hotel in the city center, Haymarket. Please let me know if you need other recommendations (I’m Swedish ) The fixed price from the airport is 575 SEK, approx 60 USD. But remember, no tip is expected.”
Soili H.: “I agree with Eva, Scandic Haymarket is nice and trendy.”
The grand entrance on Hotorget Square welcomes everyone to step into a 1920s era of optimism and elegance. Here in the historic PUB building, you can stay in the midst of farmers’ markets, cinemas, and concert halls, within walking distance of both the central station and trendy Stureplan.
The restaurants are in a class of their own, with something for foodies and party-goers, lunch guests, coffee-loving window-shoppers, ‘out of office’ entrepreneurs, and demanding event organizers.
The interior is easily adapted from a meeting room to a large open space to create unique events and social gatherings. They also have a small cinema with dark red velvet armchairs for meetings with a different setting.
Original features of the building where Greta Garbo worked in the 1920s have been carefully preserved, restored, or reinterpreted for the coming 2020s. The magical and cinematic feel is a stark contrast to the modern and cosmopolitan features, creating an extraordinary design experience.
The hotel is located right in the city center, next to cinemas, farmers’ markets, and market halls. The blue concert hall in Swedish 1920s classical style stands proud right opposite. Kungsgatan and Drottninggatan shopping streets are also just outside, bursting with shops, restaurants, and cafés. Choose either the metro or buses from just outside our door, or enjoy a short walk to the nightlife of Stureplan.
Have you heard the expression “Locals know best”? If you really want to uncover those hidden gems and add that extra special touch prior to your cruise, a little help doesn’t go amiss. Haymarket’s Lifestyle Concierge gives your stay that extra special touch by helping you get a table at the hottest restaurants, finding those limited edition sunglasses, getting into a nightclub, or anything else you might need. Making Ideas Pop™
We make space for new
ideas to grow
Sherry R.: “We stayed at the hotel attached to the Abba museum. Pop House. Loved it! Also loved the museum. Not that close to port but great fun.”
This hotel, located in the same building as Abba The Museum on Djurgården, is perfect for a family weekend, with other attractions such as Skansen, Vasa Museet, and Junibacken all nearby. It’s also just a short walk away from high-end shopping and restaurants in the Östermalm district.
You won’t be short of things to do at this location, perfectly located in between Liljevalchs art museum and amusement park Gröna Lund. Besides Abba The Museum, which can be entered directly from the hotel, the Skansen, the Vasa museum, children’s attraction Junibacken and the Nordic Museum are all within walking distance.
There are also great restaurants and cafés around the corner, including Oaxen and Rosendals Trädgård. The area of Östermalm, full of high-end shopping and restaurants, is very nearby – either jump on a tram or walk through the leafy park.
Designed by architect Johan Celsing in 2013, the box-like wooden building melts in naturally among the leafy surroundings of Djurgården. The panoramic windows and balconies boasting great views over the water stand out as the most striking features. The interior is mostly timeless, including brass lamps and grey sofas in the lobby lounge, with some added bright features, including the disco balls in the bar and colorful museum entrance.
When entering the lobby there is no doubt that you enter the world of Abba (Pop House hotel is partly owned by one of the former members, Björn Ulvaeus). The music, art, and memorabilia all remind of the Swedish pop phenomena. There is also a stage where the hotel hosts live music every Friday.
The service is friendly and attentive, the reception is happy to help out with special requests such as bringing a children’s chair and water boiler to the room. Besides the lobby where guests hang out in comfy sofas in front of an open fire, there is a conservatory-styled bar and a museum shop.

WELCOME TO STOCKHOLM’S CITY OASIS
Per E.; “Thats a great hotel. Hotel Skeppsholmen is awesome. We go there from time to time to eat their lovely food in the garden.”
In the middle of Stockholm city, in historic buildings from 1699 is the beautiful Hotel Skeppsholmen.
The two lengths that house the hotel today were built from recycled material from buildings and ruins around Sweden that for one reason or another were no longer in use. As early as 1699, the foundation was laid for the vision they want to create today, where sustainability is in focus. In 2009, the historic buildings had been carefully converted into hotels. Together with Stockholm-based architect Claesson Koivisto Rune, a refuge was created for all the senses.
With a beautiful and quiet location by the water’s edge and a view of Stockholm, the hotel is located with a consistent Swedish concept in food, design, music, and fashion.
Hotel Skeppsholmen has 78 hotel rooms, a restaurant, a bar as well as meeting rooms, and outstanding party rooms for large and small parties. The hotel is Nordic Ecolabelled, members of Design Hotels and proud partners of the Moderna Museet, Operakällaren Foundation, and Project Playground.
There are various room options, but all are decorated in a fresh and modern Scandinavian way.
In Restaurang Långa Raden, the food is reflected in our Swedish food heritage in contemporary simplicity and prepared with care, from seasonal ingredients.

BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN STOCKHOLM
In one of Stockholm’s most influential Art Nouveau buildings, they’ve had the amazing opportunity to use all of their enthusiasm and creativity in order to create Miss Clara. A great location in the heart of Stockholm offers endless possibilities for you to explore the many great restaurants, exciting bars, shopping gems, and hidden corners of this capital.
We’ve always felt that the number one thing of a fabulous hotel experience is the actual presence of an experience – you know that feeling when the front desk staff knows your name without consulting their computer, or when the bartender asks how you’re doing, not because she is trying to be polite but because she actually cares. Their ambition has been to create an urban design hotel and spice it up with a more continental approach to service and social interaction.
We think they did quite well.
